The Queen Victoria Markets are truly the place to go to on Wednesday evenings leading up to Christmas... thanks Clint for your suggestion!  I loved it... live entertainment and a significant array of food from around the world.  Even though the market is small, you primarily go for the atmosphere and food.

My friends seem to have the same attitude as me in moving here... I have since lost two friends to Melbourne (including Dean... and now, Chad).  I met up with Chad back in July when I returned to Australia and given the birth of his son to a girl here in Melbourne, he was considering moving here.  It was great to catch up with Chad in one of the bars in South Yarra... talk about an amazing coincidence because I didn't know he had moved to Melbourne at this time... and to think that we were in the same bar at the same time was amazing (theme of this travelpod!).   I know he has different reasons to me wanting to move here, but he is simply loving the city and has an apartment in St Kilda to be close to his 3 month old son, Ted Benjamin.  Not sure about the name Ted but love the name Benjamin.

My love of Melbourne extends to the fact that it is so multicultural in nature and is reminiscent of cities such as London and Paris.  It appears that the whole world has come to this city with the presence of Europeans (Greek, German, Italian), South Americans, Africans and Asians everywhere.  I LOVE IT.  The city has a British feel to it, including horse-led carriages taking people on tours of the CBD.  The parks, however, are a little disappointing given that the grass is dead... the water restrictions are tough here.  On Thursday night, Dean and I went to a beautfiul little cafe on De Graves Lane, near Flinder's Station.  This cafe encapsulated every image I have of Melbourne, including the down to earth hippy like locals and friendly but easy going service.  Dean had a steak whilst I had a seafood risotto for only $43, combined (including drinks).  A bargain.

I have since moved to the Rialto Hotel on Collins which is everything you expect of a 5 star hotel.  In the middle of the hotel is a beautiful 7 story high Atrium.  The service is simply world class... the hotel's old age makes it an interesting place to stay.  Can highly recommend it for people with a $140 a night accommodation budget (see wotif.com.au for deals).  Unfortunately, I have come down with my 9th flu of the year and I feel really shitty at the moment... I am desperate to get rid of it so am taking cold and flu tablet and resting heaps in the room.  I've had the last two nights off relaxing which is ok but I'm not happy about missing the nightlife here.  Not to worry... I will be back in April.  Would love to stay here at the Rialto again.
