The last two days have been really great here in Rio. I´m getting into the holiday mode of beach by day, a little sunburn and dancing by night.

I spent the afternoon on, what is my favourite beach so far, Ipanema. The beach just oozes with life and I loved observing hawkers, beautiful people and sport on the beach whilst working on my Brazillian tan and lapping up the beautiful waters. Like Patong Beach in Phuket, I had drinks and food served to me whilst sunbathing. Great stuff.

In the evening, I went to Cine Ideal... one of the biggest downtown nightclubs in Rio. It was frequented by locals as well... noone that I met spoke English. But it was worth waiting the hour or so outside. The black girls around me were friendly... and joined in on a few beers whilst in the line. A great idea! I got a bit of a shock when a group of 3 guys came up to me... pushed in the line... and made out that I was their best friend. They chose the right guy given that I don´t speak a word of Portuguese and them of English. It was crazy having this guy hug me, try to crack on to me (or whatever else) and treat me as his best friend. Anything to get into the club early I suppose.

The thing I´m loving about this city is its acceptance of diversity. The club I went to was very mixed but mostly young... straight, gay, black and white... all dancing and having a great time under the one roof. I may be wrong here, but from what I´ve seen, South America and Germany lead the world in terms of their diversity. Even though Australia is making inroads in this, I think we have a LONG way to go. I can´t think of a straight club in Perth that would accept gay couples going for it... it is everywhere here... I love the laid back approach to things here in South America.

This afternoon I spent the afternoon walking along Copacabana beach. Way too busy... being the weekend and all. Midweek is the time to do the beaching if coming here.
