From what Ive seen of Ipanema and Copocabana so far, Rio has got to top the list of being the most beautiful city Ive been to. Walking along the entire length of Ipanema Beach yesterday had me in awe. The beach oozes with life (the fitness side of things is infectious)... and being Sunday, I saw it at its best. There were thousands of people speed walking, roller blading, skate boarding, jogging, skipping, cycling etc. etc. On the beach itself, there was beach volleyball... a modification of which is getting the ball over the net through using your feet, chest and head. All types of people... but the thing I couldnt help notice was the beauty... I have never seen so many toned and buffed guys concentrated in the one place. Interestingly, they have everything including beach gyms, massages and kiosks. But along with that, there were all sorts... short, tall, skinny, fat, black, white, brown etc. It appears to be a very relaxed place where anything goes. I love that! The weather wasnt that good either... but at least it was dry. Today, on the other hand is fine and the beach awaits me. They say that the beach is the best place to meet the locals called Cariocas.

I moved to my apartment yesterday which is fantastic... a great deal at 280 euro a week (just under $AU450). It is in an amazing location, just 10 minutes from Ipanema Beach and amongst every facility I need... markets, restaurants, bars, internet, laundry etc. Ill upload my photos soon. The apartment itself has good security, a separate kitchen, bathroom and main bedroom with cable TV. The view is ok, looking down onto the main street below. Im on the 8th floor and I cant begin to say how good it is to be back in my OWN apartment, even though its only for 25 nights. Ill be able to do my own cooking! But... I should of followed my own advice and not drink the tap water. Im wearing the effects today with a severe bout of diarrhoea. I think I may have become a little complacent given that it is ok drinking tap water in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. To say the least, Ive gone back to the bottled water.
