Touristy Bariloche
Entry 228 of 270 | show all | print this entry |
Trust me, if you are in this part of the world, go out of your way to get a cama cache bus ticket. They make overnight bus journeys very comfortable indeed. I actually kind of enjoyed it, despite it taking 15 hours to travel across the country to Bariloche. To put it into perspective, I paid 147 pesos ($US50) for the overnight 15 hour bus journey. Money definitely well spent. The service was excellent, as was the food... I slept, intermittantly, for most of the journey. It was very nice but I´m wearing the effects of 40 hours on buses this week with feeling very tired.
My first impressions of Bariloche are negative. I can´t stand touristy resorts as previously mentioned on this travelpod. I can´t stand being surrounded by toffee nosed platinum card tourists and couples that rub it in your face (get a hotel room for god sake!)... it´s just simply not me on this budget RTW trip. Bariloche is just one overpriced tourist trap. There are heaps of things to do, however, if you have the cash and impetus... which I don´t. The town is situated in a beautiful area and I´m sure the outdoor pursuits are first class. I don´t mind missing out given that I have been constantly spoilt over the last few months. I simply can´t be bothered doing anything at the moment and plan to eat, sleep, drink, hopefully socialise and prepare for my 6pm flight to Buenos Aires tomorrow. This is probably a good idea given that I plan to be out every night in this city which I constantly hear of excellent reviews about its nightlife... maybe it will continue to rate up there with other excellent B cities such as Belfast, Berlin and Bangkok! A good way to save on the budget as well as recuperate from the hectic travel pace as of late. I kind of feel a little guilty about doing nothing touristy but I can afford to do this!
I´m staying at the Tango Inn Hostel... initially, I booked a dorm room for $US7, but to tell you the truth, I am desperate for my own space and completely over the distractions, cramped living space and dirt of budget dorm rooms so I am splashing out and spending $US26 on my own room with ensuite. It is much better... I slept all afternoon and ready to hit the nightlife here which starts past midnight. Hope to pick up another Argentinian steak before doing this though! The hostel is in a bad location, about 10km from the main centro so I have to pick up taxis to get to and from the centro area.
Can´t wait to hit Buenos Aires... I´m sure I´m in for a blast of a time! Have been hanging out for this city for weeks now.
