Jet Lak Hostel

I feel as though I've returned home to a very comfy home, for the Jetlak Hostel is first class... I won't rate it as being my favourite yet because I've just arrived but my first impressions are very good.

I've arrived in Berlin, and very happy to get off the train. It was horrible sitting up for the entire 13 hours, but I still managed to get about 6 hours sleep, on and off. It was worth the 15 swiss francs. It was a very non-eventful train journey. But, I finished my book 'The Broker' by John Grisham. Like all his books, I was left in awe at the end, and totally satisfied with the ending. I won't tell you what happens... I recommend that all of you go out and get the book. Grisham is an outstanding writer, and definitely kept me on my seat until the last sentence. I've also taken an added appreciation for Grisham... I couldn't have read this book at a better time given that I passed through many of the Italian cities, towns and even train stops he uses in his book. In his note at the end, he made mention of how much he likes Italy and all things Italian... he spoke passionately about the people in Bologna. IF ONLY I got off to explore this city... like Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, I have a burning desire to return. If I return to Europe, I will probably do it for 3 months and focus on 2 or 3 countries. Doing 10 countries in just over a month is kind of ridiculous, but gives me a taste as to what my future trips will be.

Berlin Monument

Getting from the Zoo station in Berlin to the hostel was very easy, given the help of a few locals. I found it difficult to find Paristrasse (the street in which the Jet Lak hostel is located), but 2 locals (very friendly) helped me out. I was intrigued by this old man who was ever so fascinated in my huge backpack etc... he was sprouting things off in German with a big smile on his face. Adds to the wonderful list of characters I'm meeting on this trip.

I have 4 nights here, so have the time to relax, get to re-learn the city and see all the sights. This city has a fascinating history so look forward to immersing myself in it. Given my interest in world war 2 history, I'm sure I will love it.
