Here I am in KL... I've got 6 hours at what is probably one of my favourite airports in the world. KL's airport is a very comfortable place to spend a half a day. I've already had a 20 ringitt ($6) 5 star shower in the transit hotel (near gate C5 if any of you are coming through KL). Looking back, I could've spent my 6 hours in one of their rooms for 120 ringitt (about $45). But I'm enjoying spending my time roaming around what is a very beautiful terminal with everything transit passengers could want.
My flight left Australian soil at 12.42am... a nightmare time for a flight but I was totally impressed by the inflight service. The flight attendants were absolutely phenomenal... very hospitable and took care of my every whim. One tip I've found useful is to take a bottle of water on board... and get the flight attendants to continue to refill the bottle... keeps the body hydrated, especially if you're drinking alcohol like I was. The thing I liked about the female flight attendant was her confidence and obvious love of the job. Smiles all round. I sat next to a fellow Perth-ite, also on her way to London. We both slept reasonably well. But... can you believe it, we had dinner at 2.30am local time which was a real pain given the superb farewell feast I had at my mum's place. But eating on board a plane is one of the pleasures of travel... the meal was also very good consisting of veal, potato, pumpkin and a delicious cheesecake. I don't need any more food for hours. I'm totally full from my 3 weeks in Perth and can't wait to go back to a budget diet in Europe. We arrived into KL at 6.10am... right on time. Malaysian Airlines really impressed me on this flight to KL. Let's hope the flight to London is equally as good.
So here I am... it's 8.10am and my flight for London leaves at noon. I arrive into London at 6.10pm local English time. I doubt I will hit the town but we'll see how we go. I've been told that Europe is extremely busy with the World Cup etc. Glad I've got most things booked.
I'm in good spirits... was no where as emotional as I was leaving Perth in December (maybe because I know what I'm getting myself into this time). I left Perth with no expectations except making the tour through South America. I know that I can return at any time if I lose my appetite. Travelling RTW for 1 year is an ambitious feat... if I start to totally dislike it, I have the flexibility to expedite my itinerary etc. But I'll be taking each day as it comes and making the most of it. It's quite refreshing to think that I am in an international airport in a foreign land, on my way to Europe, instead of being stuck behind a desk. Bring on round 2 of my continued journey RTW!
