To say the least, last night was weird and I was kind of worried that I wouldn't get any sleep, but I did thanks to the duvet covering my head.

The room I stayed in last night had 6 beds... one for me and the other for a very old man (probably 80) with a breathing mask and apparatus strapped to his head to keep him breathing. I would hate to think what would of happened if something went wrong with the machine! But throughout the night, there was a suction noise and stable breathing which was a good sign. But talk about weird... I never thought I would have shared a dorm room with someone on his death bed? But god bless him... its good to see that travel is open to anyone and everyone. To say the least, you never know who you will share with in a dorm room. The room was very uncomfortable and had a disgusting smell. I struggled to get the window opened but did in the end... thank goodness, because the smell made me quite nauseus at first... I had to stop myself from vomiting on one occasion - which is a rare occurrence - I can put up with most disgusting smells including students' vomit. I awoke at 8am and quickly gathered my things and exited this weird hostel. To top it all off, the service was quite rude. Enough of that!

I was kind of keen to leave Kilkenny because, apart from a most impressive Anglican Church. The church's round tower was constructed in the year 849. Built on very shallow foundations, the tower reached a height of 100 feet... I couldn't be bothered towering this one. Surrounding the church were graves ranging in dates from the 1500s to the current century... one family had centuries attached to it. I am thoroughly enjoying exploring Ireland's history.

I'm in Cork now and it definitely has a much better feel to it. The hostel I'm staying at is outstanding value for money. It's called Sheila's Hostel (appropriate for an Aussie) and has clean, but cramped 4 bed dorms (I'm the only one so far) and impeccable, 5 star bathrooms and toilets). The reception attends to your every need including laundry, internet, snacks, locker etc. All for 17 euros a night. 100% better than the last one, but you never know who may walk in that dorm room!
