According to Lonely Planet, Huang Shan (Yellow Mountain) IS truly spectacular, and the surrounding countryside, with its traditional villages and patchwork paddy fields is among the most beautiful in China IN GOOD WEATHER. Today we experienced the best of both worlds for most of the day... it was abysmal in the morning (mist, fog and rain etc.) but it cleared up in the afternoon, lifting our spirits so high as the sun lit up the mountain. Oh boy was I relieved for bad weather has really masked my opinion of China as of late. The mountain has a very clever cable car taking passengers from one level to the next on the mountain... took about 20 minutes.

This tour has a physical rating of 2 (hardly anything) but today was hard - good preparation for my next tour which has a physical rating of 4!!!! Up, down, up, down mountain slopes. We walked and walked... about 15km all up.. Another view of the mountain - third view

. so today was a very good fitness work out for all of us. Much needed after the oily food we've been having.

I'm glad that we experienced such dramtic shifts in the weather because the morning provided us with a very different experience to that of the afternoon. In the morning, it was very eery walking through the clouds whilst navigating the very tidy but hard paths of the mountain. In the afternoon, we were rewarded with splendid views of the mountain's slopes.

Amazing Race RTW was filmed here... I can recall the contestants opening a whole lot of keys before moving on to their next destination. Given that this is one of my favourite TV shows, I was most impressed when we stumbled across the keys they had to open to move on.

On our descent back to the hotel, we passed through the most amazing gardens and scenery I've seen in China - Lonely Planet got it right! It truly is amazing and has made my travels here so worth it.

I was relieved to have made it back to the hotel where I relaxed, had dinner and slept ever so well.
