Rachel, Ari and myself headed to a local pub in Yangshuo to relax before our massive journey to Yichang. It was a fantastic opportunity to let our hair down after what has been a massive trip so far.
The journey began at 5pm where we caught our bus to Guilin's train station. Talk about a hectic train station... the locals push and shove their way through. I'm quickly losing patience and have become one of the locals in pushing my way through with my bulky 19kg backpack. I'm hoping to mail some stuff home... 19kg here in China is way too much given that we are putting our backpacks on and off our backs many times in one day. We boarded our train, and once again we had 6 bed compartments. I shared with Rachel, Ari and 2 other locals who had their eyes transfixed on me for the whole time whilst I sat on their bed. I used sign language to let them know they could have my pre-allocated bed in the middle whilst I chatted along with Ari and Rachel. Thank goodness I had their company on these Chinese trains... it would of been very lonely otherwise.
We arrived into Wuhan 14 hours later... I didn't sleep that well on the train. During the evening, the Chinese guy sleeping above me broke out into a full on telephone conversation... sounded like he was arguing. What the hell??? At 3am in the morning. During the train journey, I awoke to loud speakers in numerous train stations. Poor Rachel... boy was she in a mood this morning. But we have all had our fair share of bad moods including myself. China can be extremely frustrating. From Wuhans's train station, we boarded our local bus for a 5 hour bus journey to Yichang - our boarding port for our 2 night journey along the Yangzi. The distances are huge here and I feel that most of our tour has been travelling. I'm feeling quite exhausted.
Our meals are consisting of shared Chinese dishes... we sure do have a hungry group of travellers for the dishes go very fast. We have had a pretty good concoction of Chinese dishes, stir fries being the staple.
