I took time out to go to the movies yesterday. The movie, Prime, is a romantic comedy starring Meryl Streep. Before the viewing started, the audience had to stand to attention and acknowledge the King by listening to some kind of anthem... probably the Thai National Anthem? Once again, things are very cheap here... the entry, a drink and popcorn came to about $5.
The movie was hilarious... Meryl provides therapy to a 37 year old recent divorcee who happens to start dating Meryl's son, who is 23. The problem arises when Meryl happens to find out who her patient is dating! During the therapy sessions, the discussions centre around a whole lot of personal things. Because of the Jewish religion, all sorts of problems start to arise when Meryl finds out her patient is dating her son...
This afternoon, I decided to get the sky train to the end of the line where the weekend markets are
After drinks, Game took me back to the Lumpane Night Market which is an amazing open-air restaurant that houses about 1000 people. Coupons are needed to buy the food... I left it up to Game to select the food which consisted of a few vegetable dishes, fried chicken (delicious!), assorted pastries and rice. The Thai food and people have made my visit to Thailand so memorable.

. On a stroke of luck, in this huge metrapolis of 9 million people, I happened to bump into Game, a local I met a few nights ago at a pub in Silom. Given that I only know a handful of people here, I couldn't believe that we were in the same place at the same time etc. We ended up visiting the markets together before heading back to his place for a few drinks... it must be quite common that local homes don't have kitchens. Our apartments in Australia are HUGE compared to what these guys live in. As it happens, Game is contemplating going to Chiang Mai at the same time as me so it'll be great to have a travelling companion... but yet to be confirmed. Game's a very interesting guy who has worked around the world on cruise ships and for one royal yacht. He has the 5 star service down pat... He is currently setting up his own shop at Lumpane Night Plaza Market, hence his plan to go to Chiang Mai. I've been told that shopping is the best in Chiang Mai so I will wait until I get there to do my Thai shopping. After drinks, Game took me back to the Lumpane Night Market which is an amazing open-air restaurant that houses about 1000 people.
