Como esta?
It is hard to believe that 4 months have gone since I last wrote. And to think that I only have 2 months to go is getting me mega excited. During the last 4 months, I have changed my itinerary slightly, got some needles, and continued to monitor others' travelblogs etc.
After some long hard thought, I've decided to reduce my itinerary to include 3 main continents: Asia, Europe and South America. I came to the conclusion that it is too ambitious to cover North America as well... and I want to spend more time in places like SE Asia, China and South America. My revised itinerary is: SE Asia - Perth - Singapore - Overland - Bangkok - Hong Kong - Overland - Beijing - Hong Kong - Dubai - London - Dublin - Amsterdam - Overland - Madrid (via Eurail in Europe) - Quito - Overland - La Paz - Santiago - Overland - Rio - Santiago - Sydney - Melbourne - Perth.
I want to keep my itinerary as flexible as possible, but Qantas with it's RTW Oneworld Fare is flexible with dates, but costly with itinerary changes. It'll be interesting if I follow my itinerary as planned.
As for luggage, I've got most things... when I finish up work in 6 weeks, I'll finish getting the small things. It's amazing at how fast the pre-trip expenses tally up. So far, including ticket, I've spent about $5,600 on pre-trip expenses including jabs, backpack, travel gear, YHA membership etc etc...
I tried to purchase a Eurail, but have since found out that the ticket is valid for only 6 months after the issue date. This is no good for me given that I won't be in main-land Europe in June. I'm also contemplating a few GAP Adventure/ Gecko tours in SE Asia but won't look into organising these until I'm on the road. There are obvious advantages and drawbacks to doing organised tours, and I'll wait to see how I'm going before I organise these.
Qantas has a good deal going... 5000 extra points for flying to Asia during December... I am hoping that I will be able to use some points to upgrade my first flight segment to Singapore... couldn't hope for a better start to the trip.
Anyway, for now, I hope to start to practice downloading photos onto this site using my digi... the excitement is definitely building... got some anxiety but not too much - sure that will develop as I get closer. I just can't wait to give up work and start travelling the globe. The more I look at photos of places like Cambodia, Laos and China, the more my desire to travel intensifies.
Until next time, Aldios, Shane.
