PRELUDE: SIX MONTHS TO GO
==========================
Hey there! Thought I'd give this a go with only six months till I lift off. Can't believe it's been a year since I first thought about going RTW. Initially, I thought about going for six months but looked at my itinerary in February of this year and thought no way! So, I've booked my leave with my employer and I've got up to 14 months to go wherever I want, whenever I want, starting December 8 this year. Sounds pretty good to me.
For those of you who don't know me, I've been teaching all over WA for the last 10 years. I love an adventure. It's an opportune time for me to do what I love most... travel and immerse myself in other cultures! This will be my 8th trip overseas... and my longest. Back in 1996, I spent 6 months in Missouri, USA and in 2000, 6 months RTW with 3 months in London. Wish I could of stayed longer. I'm really excited about this trip and can't wait to get it started.
THE PLAN
========
The 'trip' is basically divided into five parts:
1. SE Asia. Singapore-Bangkok, deviating to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia. (3 months)
2. China. Hong Kong-Kunming-Chengdu-Wuhu-Xian-Beijing. (2 months)
3. Europe. London-Dublin-Amsterdam-Madrid, deviating to Morocco and Portugal. (2 months)
4. Sth America. Quito-La Paz and then Santiago-Rio, via Buenos Aires. (4 months)
5. Nth America. New York-Denver-San Fran, via Calgary & Vancouver-Honolulu. (2 months)
If!!!!! I come back early, I'll spend the remainder of the year in my favourite city... Melbourne.
I plan to depart Australia on 26th December, 2005 and return on or around 14th December.
Most of the trip will be done independently, staying in backpackers etc., but may include an organised group tour here and there if I'm in need of it! Before heading down the west coast of South America, I'd like to spend several weeks in Quito at language school to brush up on my Espanol. But hey, I don't want to lock myself into anything.
Most of this trip will be done with a 12 month Qantas RTW One World Ticket. Not bad for about $4000. Can change my dates at will, but re-routing will cost me.
WHAT NEXT?
==========
Love spending my time reading up on others' travel logs, especially single travellers doing RTW. Love to meet up with others doing or thinking about what I'm planning to do.
As for the coming months, I don't plan on doing much except for buying stuff for the backpack, get my needles and continue to check out Lonely Planet:)
Feel free to contact me at wshane@hotmail.com.
Happy travelling!
