After years as a pipe dream I am finally doing my Latin American Trip and also throwing in New Zealand for good measure! 6 weeks still left to prepare.  ;o)

So far I have bought plenty of books, mapped out my route, bought my flights, and begun to get my vaccinations. My arm is already starting to resemble a pin cushion and the cost of this punishment is nothing to be sneezed at either. However I will have 6 1/2 months to forget all about it.

Firstly a rundown on my route.

Central Ameica
Depart London for Mexico City on November 3rd.
Spend approx 20 days in Mexico, before moving on through Belize, Guatamala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

South America
From Panama City I will take a flight to Bogota, Colombia, spend Christmas there and then fly out again to La Paz, Bolivia for the New Year.
Next move north towards Cusco, Peru, trek the Inca Trail, go west to Arequipa and Nazca, up the coast towards Lima and then on to Iquitos.
There I will board a boat of some sorts and sail down the Amazon into Brazil stopping off at Manaus for a jungle tour. Continue on then to the mouth of the river at Belem and come down the coast through Salvador and into Rio just in time for Carnival!
After that it's inland to the mighty Iguazu falls and down through Argentina to Buenos Aries for a week or so.
I will likely fly south to the worlds most southerly town Ushauia in Tierra Del Fuego.
After that I will trek back up through Patagonia and Chile to Santiago.

The Rest...
From Santiago it's a short 13 hour flight to Auckland, New Zealand where I hope to spend 3-4 weeks travelling all around NZ to see what all the fuss is about.
Then it's homeward bound over the final week with stop-off's in Sydney and Bangkok for a few days at a time.

I will post a further update just before I set off.

Please feel free to add to my guestbook or add comments to my blogs, photos etc... (You will need to become a member to add comments but you don't if you add to the guestbook). You can subscribe to my entries if you are a member and you will receive notifications of any new entries/updates. Alternatively if you do not wish to be a member but would still like to hear from me just give me your email address and I will add you to the list.

Cheers,

Shane

Re: Tracking device!!
No GPS tracking - as keen as Brian is to know exactly when I am passing my latest meal I decided against it. I may have a different view on things should I find myself on the wrong side of some Colombian druglords!

Re: Re: Tracking device!!
Apparently amoebic dysentry is rife in Central America I hope you're packing plenty of bog roll ?? Failing that apparently 500mg Tinadazole tablets should act as an internal cork !!

Suitably Jealous
Well Shane, I have been reviewing your photos and comments of your travels so far (sounds like you are having a pretty rubbish time).

Needless to say I'm not jealous at all and am particulary enjoying the winter commute into and out of work.

You don't know what you're missing :o)))

Looking forward to your next update.
