Back in the car and sort of heading north once more.
First stop was the Tongariro national park and it's 3 volcanos. The weather was miserable - grey with lots of low cloud. As we got to the edge of the national park it got worse.
Suddenly, there was a hint of blue sky and then we were above the cloud level and it was all blue sky and warm sunshine.
We did a few short walks around the park and took a few photos and ate food.
The volcano that actually looks like a volcano was used as Mount Doom in the films - hence the stupid title for today's entry.
I feel it important to point out that we're not the kind of saddos who want to see all the Lord of the Rings sites (though Sarah is keen on going to Prawn Park - an attraction based around prawns!).
After a brief photo stop at Lake Taupo, we arrived in Rotorua where we'll stay for a few days. It's the main place for thermal springs, bubbling mud and geysers - and it smells of rotten eggs.
