A short flight to Christchurch, a change of planes, a short flight to Wellington in a twin-prop plane and we're on the North Island. There we collected a hire car (a godawful GM Holden) and we're off heading north towards Rotarua.
The scenary is less moutainous, with green rolling hills (think Teletubbie land with wrinkles - it's hard to descibe).
After about four hours drive, we picked a random motel in a random town en-route and stopped for the evening.
