Our plan was to take a helicopter trip up onto Fox Glacier and have a walk (boots, crampons etc provided by tour company). After some overnight rain / downpours we looked at the mountains and couldn't see them - they were hiding behind the low cloud.
We waited all morning but both heli trips were cancelled.
So, instead we got a mini-bus and then walked to the base of the glacier.
We then went for a walk to the nearby lake, just because it's there. Sadly the map we had been given turned out to be 'not to scale' so I was crippled before we even got to the lake so we didn't make it round to the best views (but it was cloudy so they weren't at their best anyway).
Today was our only chance to go to the glacier as tomorrow we're back on the buses.
