Today was spent traveling. A long day watching the world go by (though a short distance when compared to our total round the world mileage).
Firstly, we went from Christchurch to Greymouth on the Tranzalpine train. This leaves the plains around Christchurch and heads west through the mountains of Arthur's Pass to Greymouth on the west coast. Some great scenery - lots of mountains (one or two snow capped), rivers and valleys.
The train line is quite mad - lots of tunnels and viaducts.
After a short wait, it was onto a mini-bus to travel down the coast and then up into the mountains to Fox Glacier. This is a genuine one-horse town. A few dozen buildings on a crossraods. It exists solely to send tourists to the glaciers.
As I said, this was only a short journey - but it took all day.
