13/8/10 Friday night

We had a simple breakfast in the pub below our room, bread smoked bacon, cheese and salami with a few cups of coffee. Then we packed up all our dirty clothes and headed to the coin laundry to get some washing done. Shane also used this as a networking opportunity to find where the best place in Bamberg was to get a new camera. Not sure what happened to the old one but it did not want to work. We headed off to the recommended shop Media Markt a big chain of shops all over Europe. After we painstakingly looked at all the options in every price category we decided on a camera. When we went to pay for it at the checkout only to be told that the shop does not take Visa, Mastercard or Amex? We thought the lady was joking; only German cards were accepted. Huh, so we had to go find and ATM and withdraw the cash and have a bratwurst to think it over. We purchased the new shiny camera, same as our last one but a newer model with a very special has a built in GPS. So when you take a photo it can also attach information about your location, pretty clever little machine.

We had a lazy day and then headed into the city centre of Bamberg. We did not get very far and the heavens opened again. I can't remember ever having this much rain fall in such a short space of time. It set in and rained constantly all night. A shame as there was a blues and Jazz festival on in town. We listen to a few people and then stumbled across an aussie on stage, Jaimi Faulkner, a rare find in Bamberg. We listen to him for a while and then bought his CD only to find that he is from Brunswick, currently living in Berlin. We also went to the bar he was playing at later and had a chat to him in between sets. He even knew people from 'the bool’, small world!!

We found another pub with smoked beer poured straight out of the barrel. We sampled a few more kinds of beer and several pieces of pizza from a street stand. We stumbled back to the other side of the river in the rain.

Happy hour: There is a bar just down the street that has Happy hour from 10am, and it was full.

Pins: There are currently now 7 new badges for my collection!
