Where I stayed
Driving on the autobahn, slowing down to 100 for roadworks seems weird. We have not had to pay any road tax or tolls in Germany. The roads flow so well, here you have to keep an eye on what is happening ahead as well as behind you. Shane has managed to adjust his driving to fit in, with the crazy German drivers. Actually the Germans are good drivers they just got fast, the Italian were crazy!
Left early from Munchen (Munich) and headed for Plzen (Czech Republic). Another border crossed another photo missed of the sign (that we entered a new country) and no stopping, no passports checked, we are free to travel where ever we like!
The weather was fine and traffic flowing FAST
We slowed to urban speeds as we entered Plzen in the Czech Republic and headed to the Hotel Angelo which was situated a stoned throw from the iconic Pilsner Urqell Brewery – there was a bridge that connected the hotel to the brewery. Thanks for the tip Chrissy and Dan, we are following your honeymoon itinerary for a few days. We spent the afternoon cruising around the city centre taking in the sites. Things were fairly quite (after 5pm in Europe things shut down) and we found a place open off an alley in a court yard, we had a nice simple meal (Pork & Salmon) and called it a night, Elisha was a bit tired
TIP for the day: Give plenty of warning to the driver when you need to go to the toilet as limited stops are available on the autobahns!
Czech Language = Difficult. We did try and even asked the waiter how to say thank you – he looked at us and said, "hmmm it’s very difficult for you." He wrote down Djekuji, he said it would be easier if we just said Thank you!
10-8-10 Tuesday (although every day is a Saturday for us!)
We had a bit of a sleep in this morning and wandered down for our buffet breakfast and headed into town for a look. We booked into a brewery tour of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery for the afternoon. The tour was interesting with the highlight was tasting of a pint of “unfiltered beer” poured straight from the 8,000 litre oak barrels, which is largered for 5 weeks in the catacomb of cellars underneath Plzen in an area of 40 ha, or 6 km of tunnels where the temperature is a constant chilly 8 degrees. After to the tour we went to the pub Na Parrknau where we had a bar meal (pork again – yum) and we tried “The MASTER”. A Pilsner Urquell brew at 18% although you wouldn’t know it – smooth, dark and a bit chocolaty.
We were sitting outside in a beer garden when Shane started flicking a wasp away. Mid air he got stung and had to deal with a swollen finger for several days to come.
Beers sampled on trip= We have lost count?
