san pedro de atacama is a small town in northern chile in the middle of the desert.  a crossing point from bolivia and a tourist hub for that reason and because there are shed loads of tours to do in the surrounding area.  horse riding, cycling, trekking, sand boarding, volcano climbing etc.  tomorrow we are going horse riding in the morning before neil leaves us to fly to santiago :(  then at night we are off to an observatory in the desert where, apparently, you can see amazing detail of planets and such in the sky.
it is mucho scorchio here - getting ready for some serious tanning, although got to keep sun off my nose as is still burnt from salar de uyuni and now scabby and peeling - looking beautiful as ever!  small town, we have walked around lots today trying to organise ourselves.  slight problem in that it is very expensive (almost london prices!) and yet both ATMs in the town have run out of cash over the new year.  could be a problem.......
more soon.
