We had a super fun experience to kick start our weekend--going to visit my friend's school. She is a teacher and she has adorable children in her class. The school is in a lower income neighborhood and my friend has instituted an awesome tradition--inviting guests to come and read stories to her class. After story-time, the class can ask the guests interview-style questions. (A lot of "What's your most prized possession?" style queries).
The tradition is called Mystery Reader, because the kids never know when someone is coming OR who the reader is going to be. We knock on the door and 20 little nine year olds all whiplash their heads to the door and shriek "It's the mystery reader!!!!!"
It's a great way to make us feel special
We read our story (Duck / Rabbit) and chatted with the children. We must have done something fun on Fri night, but hell if I can remember.
Saturday I went to a bridal shower and Shaan met up with an old friend. Later, we connected and explored downtown--Millennium Park, the Bean, and there was an aborted attempt to go up to the top of the Hancock.
Sunday night we had some fun times out at Second City (Brother Can You Spare Some Change) and ate at the Adobo Grill. Another key highlight: seeing the Home Alone church in Winnetka. And taking nice walks along Lake Michigan! AND Chicago style pizza! Yeah, this was a good weekend. :)
