We stayed at the Grand Rotana, because it was one of the best values out there (comparatively speaking, yo!). We flew in late at night and checked in late at night. The feeling when I woke up to daylight and got to go out to our balcony (balcony!) and see the flowers (flowers!) and Red Sea (Red Sea!) was amazing. Ah-MAZ-ing.
Breakfast was included in our lodging... so we enjoyed breakfast. Each and every day. We enjoyed taking a few pieces of breakfast back with us when we were done. We enjoyed taking pictures of the flowers and of us in the (cold) Red Sea. We enjoyed a day of simply sitting by the pool and reading
One afternoon we took the Grand Rotana shuttle into town and walked about in the Shark's Bay area. We walked hand-in-hand through the markets and the stores. We had Thai food--major yum. We sat in the dark on a plush couch near the bay, just overlooking the dark sea. It was lovely.
It was during this evening that we heard a Russian woman get back on our shuttle bus and say "Zee Grand Rotaaana, nyes?" which has now become a staple in our nonsensical things we quip back and forth to each other.
The last night there we had a great meal at our own resort--the cuisine was Indian. I got great vegetable biryani but couldn't finish it. I asked if I could take the rest to go--they were slightly confused but happy to oblige. I was confused as to why they were confused. I was more confused when they didn't give me my food, but said someone had already taken it up to our room. I was further confused when they had left it in the biryani ceramic pot instead of putting it in a to-go container. Maybe people don't take food to go in Indian restaurants in Egypt? ;)
Another fun thing about Sharm was going up to the roof terrace of the Grand Rotana, watching a woman perform belly dancing with music, and smoking hookah.
Man, Sharm was so nice to us! I'm just glad we went after pseudo 'roughing it' for the first part of our trip so we could really appreciate our accomodations.
