Just completed a two "dive" boat trip to Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, with Dani a German girl studying Japanese at the University of Akita in Japan and a friendly Hungarian couple. They all dived....I snorkelled. At Castle Rock(it is a submerged rock)I spotted a healthy 7 foot shark below me.....it spotted me and dashed off in fright.....thank goodness. Not much coral but a sprinkling of familiar fish. At Crystal Rock, a strong current was a major problem for a surface snorkeller and I had to actually grab on to the rock and pull myself to the other side of the rock and then nestle into a non-current area. Here I spotted three to four sharks plus two large Napoleon wrasses. Had interesting conversations with the others---the Hungarian talked about the extent of the Russian Mafia in many countries(eg Spain)and how they were new competitors for the Roma. Dani related how difficult it was to learn Japanese because of the innumerable levels of "politeness address" depending on whom you were talking to!! Tomorrow it is back to Denpasar by plane. Flights are relatively inexpensive eg Labuanbajo to Denpasar -$65. USD.
