We cruised overnight to San Cristobal, and arrived at 6:15am at Leon Dormido at sunrise
After breakfast we headed to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno to visit the interpretation center. As we approached the dock, we saw several more sea lions sleeping all on the boats in the harbor, and everywhere near the dock. The interpretation center was OK, it had some pictures and maps. But mainly it had textual information about the history of Galapagos. We said farewell to Fernando, our fellow Argentinian passenger who was leaving us that day and caught the bus ride back to town. Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is a quaint little town with a few shops and restaurants. We didn't buy much except for some postcards, stamps and juice for Shari.
After lunch, it started to pour down rain. William radios to us that we are getting 2 new passengers, but their plane couldn't land due to poor visibility, and had to be redirected to Baltra. So he was still on the island waiting for them to come in. Everyone is hesitant at 2:30 to go back out for a walk or swim as the weather still looked nasty. But by 4:00pm, we all head out (except for Shari who decides to stay back and recuperate more). We took the dinghies back to Puerto Bazquerizo Moreno, followed by a bus ride towards Loberia Beach. Loberia Beach is known for its sea lions and the largest marine iguanas in the Galapagos. We tried 3 different attempts to get to the beach, but were stopped each time by flooded streets. I was hoping the bus would try to go through and get stuck, as it would make for a good story, but we ended up turning back every time. After the 3rd attempt, we just headed back to town and hung out in a pub to drink some beer.
