Surf Kayaking Goat Island

A highlight of our way down was a bakery in Matakana, between Leigh and Warksworth, the Matakana Patisserie. It had awesome baked goods and Frank thoroughly enjoyed the Flat White there (Kiwi version of latte).
We arrived in Devonport and walked a little around town to check it out before checking in for the night at our holiday park nearby.
Goat Island is a marine reserve well known for its tons of fish. You can even see snapper and some blue fish (we think it's called Maomao) right from the shore. Lots of people scuba dive and snorkel there. First we thought we'd go kayaking before snorkeling. The weather was overcast, and the ocean was pretty choppy that day. I got a little freaked out on the water, especially after getting flipped over, so we ended up just catching some waves with our kayak closer to shore. We caught a couple of waves, which was a lot of fun. It was getting a little too late to snorkel as we needed to get down to Auckland that night, so we drove on.
