So...how do we pick the destinations for our trip? We decided to jot down a few goals for the trip to help guide our decision-making:
Shari's Goals
#1: Unwind from the daily grind by immersing myself in new cultures and surroundings
#2: Get inspired! Which will help me take a leap into the next phase of life
#3: Celebrate life through music, dance, and of course, eating!
Frank's Goals:
Life is just too short... So let's just have a blast, do sports that let me go REALLY REALLY fast, take tons of wildlife pictures, and do pretty much any other dumb thing which comes to mind.
Given our goals above, and also knowing that we wanted to be in Berlin in October for Frank's family event, and in Hawaii at the end of the trip to hang out with Shari's family, we chose that general route from Seattle -> Berlin -> Honolulu, with some additional stops in between.
Here's the current travel plan planned so far:
- Departing Seattle, WA, USA 10/16
- Berlin, Germany (hang out with Frank's family & friends)
- Prague, Czech Republic (if we have time)
- Doha, Qatar (we have a 10 hour layover to do a quick look around if we get our butts out of the airport)
- Johannesburg, South Africa
- Make our way to Cape Town, South Africa (Doing a Safari is the major plan for this country, tons of wildlife opportunities for Frank)
- Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Plan is to get there in time for the Cambodian Water Festival)
- Make our way to Siem Reap, Cambodia to check out the Angkor Wat Ruins
- Hanoi, Vietnam
- Bangkok, Thailand
- Sydney, Australia (Couple of big-city breaks for Shari in Bangkok & Sydney)
- Christchurch, NZ
- Make our way to Auckland, NZ
- Fiji (free stopover, we'll just hang out for a couple days)
- Belize (check out Mayan ruins)
- Dominican Republic (Frank wants to learn kiteboarding, Shari to go dancing and perhaps go to Spanish School..there should also be Carnaval going on by the time we get there in Feb!)
- Ecuador-- Make our way to Galapagos Islands (more wildlife photo opp)
- Hawaii (Surfing! Also hang out with family and eat lots of good food)
- Return back to Seattle, April 2008

After our route was planned, it was pretty hectic moving out of Shari's townhouse, Frank's apartment, and putting everything in storage. You'll never guess where Frank ended up storing his motorcycle!
