Yet another overcast day - Rhonda wanted to visit a weekend flea market, but this time a small Easter carnival was in its place, with amusement rides and games. We walked around the lake instead. Most of the sailboats and paddleboats were still at the docks, although I saw some rowers. In the (short) summer, people swim in the lake. Today, in the late morning, was mostly quiet.

We ate lunch at a great vegetarian buffet, part of Hiltl, the first vegetarian restaurant in Europe, founded in 1898. Dishes were labelled as vegan, wheat-free, and egg-free. For me, a nice break from yogurt and cheese!

On another day Oliver brought us to his school, built just a couple of years ago for 65 million Swiss francs. That mind-boggling figure paid for a public school, not in the most expensive neighborhood in Zurich. We walked briefly around the massive gymnasium, with regulation-size volleyball, hockey, and basketball courts. It also houses a three-story climbing wall, with both lead and toprope climbs. Plus equipment for any sport imaginable. We walked through a hallway of music and dance rooms, which had pianos and floor-to-ceiling windows. His single key opens every door, with a microchip that records his movements. Just as we left a security guard approached us, to confirm that everything was legit on a rainy Saturday afternoon. So impressive, nicer than plenty of university facilities in the US. That's what non-military spending can accomplish.
