7:30 AM - Seth rolls out of the tent. The first order of buisness is to fire up the stove and start boiling water for coffee. Convieniently Holly rolls out of the tent right about the time the coffee is ready. Breakfast typically consists of yogurt, melon and muesli.
8:30 AM - Time to clean up, dress up, and pack up. After we unfold our legs from sitting indian style (I don't know how much longer I can sit that way), we clean the dishes, clean ourselves, then start packing up camp.
10:00 AM - We probably should be more efficient, but our bicycles usually don't roll out til around 10. As temperatures rise we will have to somehow find a way to get out earlier. On our way out of town we usually grab ham, cheese, a baguette, and snack for the road.
10:30 AM - Holly asks Seth if he remembered to sunscreen the hole in his jersey. The answer is typically, "Oh I forgot". We pull off the road and she fixes the situation.
12:00 PM - Fig Newton break. Time to find a rock to sit on and have a snack.
1:30 PM - Lunch time. Time to make those ham and cheese sandwiches we have been thinking about since the snack break.
3:00 PM - Arrival. This is typically the time we pull into our final destination. The first order of business is to find a campground. Once we have found a place we like we look for a site. There are certain criteria we look for in a camp site. One, a site with a picnic table is a big plus. Two, proximity to the "sanitaire" or wash facilities is convenient. Three, we try to avoid a site with a large insect population. Four, it is nice to have nearby trees for drying laundry. As soon as we set up the tent, we usually ride into town to shop for dinner and breakfast. When we get back to the campground an explosion typically takes place. All the clothes and gear that were compacted into our pannier bags in a matter of minutes become spreadout all over our campsite. Looking at the sprawl it is amazing all that stuff fits in the bags.
4:00 PM - No more chamois time for the day. Time to take a shower and handwash the clothes we used during the day plus maybe a few other articles. After that we usually relax the legs a little. Maybe read, maybe hit the beach, maybe pilates, maybe lie down and stare at the trees above, usually eat more food.
7:30 PM - Dinner! It is tough cooking for just two people for just one night. Many items sold in the supermarket are packaged for a family. Since our cupboard is a ziplock bag, we try to use everything we buy in one sitting. We have done several types of meals. One we have gone back to a few times is the "Couscous with Stuff" dinner. We start by boiling water for the couscous in one pot. When the water is ready it is poured into the other pot where the couscous is waiting. That pot is covered and let to sit. Now the pot that was used to boil water is now used to saute some olive oil, garlic, Herbes de Provence, tomatoes, and either tuna or pre-cooked chicken. When that is done, the couscous is mixed in with some butter and cheese. Throw in on the side a baguette, more butter, and a 375 cl bottle of wine and voila! It should be noted we are shocked at the amount of butter and dried meats we have been consuming. A visit to the doctor to have our cholestorol checked when we get home will be in order.
8:30 PM - After dinner and washing dishes we usually fire up the stove again for some hot water. Dessert is typically tea and cookies. While we are munching away we typically talk about the plan for the next day.
9:30 PM - Time to wash up, brush the teeth, and get ready for bed.
10:00 PM - Bedtime.
