Wow, what a week for the States. What a week for the WORLD! If there is one thing I have found to be quite consistent among the French, they all seem to detest Bush. And as one French teacher was quoted, "it's about time U.S. voters figured out what much of the rest of the world already knew." Bravo!

Last Wednesday I moved up 3 levels to a different French class. Obviously I didn't do very well on the test that I took to determine my level. Or, as it was at the beginning of my stay, my French was a little rusty and has improved since then. I'm happily feeling much more challenged now.

Last Wednesday evening I took a French cooking course at the apartment of the woman who taught it. There were 6 of us students. My new friend, Ayumi (Japanese), and I made a Tarte Tatin (kind of like an upside-down apple pie). The others made a Quiche Lorraine, a flan des legumes (veggie compote sort of thing), and a baked fish with turmeric, tomatoes, crème fraîche and chives. All was very good, and I ate way too much. She teaches this once a week, so I'm hoping they will let me go each week (there are a minimum of spots). It's only 20 euros, and includes eating the meal after cooking it. See photos!

We finally got "une petite couche" (thin layer) of snow in the mountains. It's not much, but it's a start and makes for a beautiful view from the living room of my host family's house.

Hope all is well! Thank you to those who have sent me their updates!
