We checkout our accom, drove to town center to explore Paihia. True to its name "Jewel of the Bay of Islands, there are many cruise operators offering their services for fishing/dolphine watching/island hopping trips. We opted for a Cruise to Russell. It's a cosy little island and the community around the harbour mainly are cafe, souvenir shops and more fishing trip operators.
We took a cruise back to Paihia for a Chinese Lunch. Gu-ma was amazed by the "non-drip" tea pot spout the restaurant is using, so CS bought 1 for her to bring home to Fiji.
We began our drive back to Auckland. Housen made pitstop at Muriwai Beach. Miles long of Black Sand beach appeared before our eyes and awesome sight at the Gannet Colony. The Gannet Colony sits on the cliffs overlooking Muriwai Beach. Each bird guards its nesting area jealously, does not hesitate to peck another who comes too close for comfort!
