Another early start this morning and back on the TGV train to Nice in the south of France. We hopped on a double decker train on the top level. The French countryside is beautiful in this part of the country, and then we saw the beautiful beaches along the French Riviera. On the way we stopped in Marseilles, Toulon and Cannes (well known of course for it's famous film festival).
When we arrived in Nice, we were greeted with warm, sunny weather. A short walk to our hotel, quick change into shorts, and then off to the beach, only about a 10 minute stroll away.
The weather started getting cooler as we reached the beach and then it started to cloud over. No rain though which was good, as we sat down to enjoy a late lunch at one of many eateries near the beach.
Nice was not as nice as I thought it would be - it is a bit of a mish mash of old and new buildings. The beach where we were was pebbly too and big jumbo jets roared very closely overhead on a frequent basis. Perhaps you have to get out of the main centre to enjoy the best part of Nice - afterall, it was good enough for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to come here for the birth of their twins! Nice has an even more relaxed feel than Avignon, although from what I've seen, I think that Avignon is much prettier. Another quick stay here and tomorrow we're off to Italy. First stop Pisa (via Genoa).
