Well actually it wasn't anything Horrible, I would still like to return to Colombia one day because i figure my trip is not finished there...
It was sorta several things really.
A)i had gotten a stomach parasite on a 36 hour bus ride from lima to Guayaquil Ecuador, Which Caused a fair amount of discomfort, But would never be enough For me to go home, and i had been trying to figure out what it was and taking random medicine in Colombia.
B)i Got pick pocketed once, Where This old lady spit on me and then while i was cleaning it up, She stole my wallet, Then literally an hour later the same thing happened but i caught her.
Then finally the kicker was...
I had spent five and a half months traveling "alone" i say it like that because honestly As you will soon find out, I was never really alone i always met amazing like minded people (something that is hard for me to find here where i live) And established some deep friendships, The hardest part about traveling had become making these amazing friends locals or other travelers, And then after 3 days or 3 weeks of sharing experiences that will last a life time, Having to say good bye, and head down the road again to arrive at another hostel and start all over again, Was becoming a lil hard on me....
I had a friend that i grew up with who had been teaching English in Korea for the past 3 years meeting me in Peru, at my 5 month and a lil bit point, So i was really looking forward to having a familiar face around and just a constant traveling buddy to finish off my trip with.
Unfortunately As we were leaving Bogotá for Medellin, Someone had managed to get past the bus station security (trust me Theres lots of security)
Anyways This guy had stolen my friends money belt, With all of his documents credit cards passports Etc... in it.
We went to the Canadian embassy to find out that, they Aren't very helpful to Canadians abroad, and More or less The only option He had was to Get a temporary passport, Which is only good for the flight Back into Canada, Thus after only 2 short weeks sending my friend home.
I had to make a rush decision (due to seating space available for last second flights)
I did eventually have to Go back to Canada for a couple of personal affairs and just to get a new passport and stuff like that as my passport was almost out of pages.
so i had Decided to go home a lil early for the summer and work and save up some more money visit friends and family and reevaluate where to go from there.
And yeah so thats sorta how my trip ended suddenly, Unfortunately i hate how all everyone wants to talk about now is how Colombia is dangerous and about how my trip ended Rather then the other 6 amazing months.
honestly I never Once felt in any more danger then anywhere else i've been in the world, And i found the Colombian people to be amazingly friendly and generous and all my Colombian friends felt Terrible about what had happened.
Sorry about the long message, but there was a lot of variables involved with everything, I guess it came off worse then i meant because I Really miss south america, and sorta regret coming home,
It just doesn't feel like home anymore.
Cheers
Brian
