We were blessed with gorgeous weather today. It was about 75 degrees all day long - not too hot, not chilly at all. We kicked our day off late as we were feeling tired, so we skipped breakfast and went straight to lunch. The neighborhood we're staying in is packed with sidewalk cafes always filled with people so we knew we couldn't go wrong strolling around and picking one that piqued our interested. Oh boy did we do well for ourselves! We ended up at Cafe Vavin which is about 2 blocks from our house toward the Luxembourg Gardens. We had the most entertaining and helpful waiter and ate some delicious food. Robert had le plat de jour -  jumbo shrimp with noodles, and I had a Bollywood salad which had fried potatoes and tandoori chicken. Afterwards we did a supermarket and fruit stand run to fill up our hotel fridge.

At about 2:30pm we headed out for what became a 10 hour walking tour of Paris! We intended to take the metro from place to place but the weather was just so gorgeous we couldn't resist walking. We started off at the Louvre - we didn't go in as we've both been there before but to our amazement there was no line! We took some shots and walked down the Jardin des Tuileries stopping at the fountain near Place de la Concorde for some artisan ice cream. There are chairs and benches throughout all the parks so we grabbed a seat and enjoyed the sunshine.

Afterwards, we marched down the Champs-Élysées for a while then took the metro to Arc de Triomphe. After taking several shots of the arc, we strolled around on this prestigious street. We had to try out the McCafe which actually serves pastries like tiramisu, croissants and pain au chocolat! We shared a mocha frappe. Then, we stopped at an Orange Boutique to finally get our phone! Yay, we're mobile now ;)

Next, we took the metro to Trocadéro which is just across the river from the Eiffel Tower. We walked around and took pictures of and with the tower from about 50 angles :) At about 7:30, we felt hungry so we headed into the city streets to see if we can find a cafe. Instead, we stumbled upon a boulangerie, next to a boucherie with a supermarche in between! So we bought a freshly baked baguette (still hot!), some pate fois gras, pickles, cucumber salad and cherry tomatoes and had an impromptu picnic on the lawn of Parc du Champ de Mars, which has a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower. Amazing!!

After our picnic supper, we headed over to the other side of the tower, near Palais de Chaillot where they have a jumbo screen set up playing FIFA World Cup 2010 games. We watched the S. Korea vs. Nigeria game which was very exciting. Apparently there are a lot of South Koreans in Paris cause there were thousands of them cheering their team on around us! It felt awesome to not only watch the game outdoors but among so many fans! Can't get that in the US :(

After the game ended, we walked around some more and took sunset photos of and with the tower. We only had our big camera without flash so we couldn't get many shots with us in them. However, we are going back to the area to watch the England-Slovenia game at 4pm tomorrow so we'll bring our little compact camera this time. Although we were both shattered when we got home, every step we took all day was worth the experience we had!! It was one perfect day :)
