Two years in Santiago

CAN I DIG A HOLE DEEP ENOUGH?
I spent two years with my grandmother in Santiago, along with my younger brother. Since we had taken a plane that flew many thousands of feet above the ground in order to reach DR, I assumed that the US was below the ground in some way. I'm ashamed to admit, that at 8 years old I did not believe in Santa Clause or the tooth fairy, but I DID believe that I could shovel my way back to Rhode Island!! And let's just say, I may have tried digging in my abuela's back yard unsuccessfully a few times!!
