JOURNEY TO PLAYA TAMBOR
The second adventure I had in store for my mom was a stay at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste. There is some debate as to whether Playa Tambor is actually in Guanacaste or Punta Arenas (seems to be right on the border!), but since my mom desperately wanted to visit Guanacaste we'll just call it that.

Arriving to Playa Tambor was quite the journey. We boarded a 2-hour van which took us to the dock in Punta Arenas, where we boarded a 1-hour ferry. Once we arrived, we were picked up by a shuttle driver which took us the 45 minutes to the resort. We were excited to arrive to a beautiful resort full of unlimited free tropical drinks!

Once we arrived, we learned that the resort was owned by a Dominican company. What are the odds! The entertainment staff and hair dressers were all from Santo Domingo and we felt right at home!

RAIN ON THE BEACH
As soon as we settled in and ate lunch by the pool, it started to rain. We opened our umbrellas and walked on the black sand beach, until the rain stopped a few minutes before sunset. It was strange to be at an all-inclusive resort and not see the picture-perfect beaches of Punta Cana (oh how we've been spoiled!), but we enjoyed our stay just the same.

Later that night we participated in the all-inclusive resort must-see activitiy - the cheesy show! It actually wasn't too bad - at least the first few minutes!

HORSE-BACK RIDING FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
The next day, we woke up bright and early to go horse back riding. My mom was ecstatic. She had ridden on donkeys as a little girl, so she was in her element as soon as she mounted her horse. I, on the other hand, was scared out of my mind! My horse was neither big nor aggressive, I was just worried that he would throw me on my butt over the steep ravines we passed on our way to the beach. By the time we reached the sand, I was sweating with fear. The horse looked at me as if to say "Why are you sweating?? I'm the one carrying the heavy load!!"...

Once we arrived on the beach, led by our guide, I was able to enjoy the experience for a few minutes. But I was very relieved when we trotted back to the stable and I dismounted the horse!

Later that morning, my mom enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi, right before we packed and started the journey back to my apartment.
