A BEAUTIFUL SATURDAY MORNING
Coming back from Guatemala the night before, we met Eider, a friendly Boston resident who had just come back from visiting his family in Chapinlandia. He was in Costa Rica for a few days and hung out with us on Saturday. We decided to hike the beautiful green mountain that neighbors my apartment. We loaded up with water and mostly de-charged digital cameras, and headed for the rolling hills.

As we were walking up the lush, green, hill, Caro and I felt like Julie Andrews from the Sound of Music (minus the whole nazi nun thing!) we were seriously on the verge of bursting into song. One look at the pictures I'm attaching and you will see why. To add to the scenic panorama, we were joined by cows. Caro fearlessly approached one and really overcame her fear of wild animals. The cows were not feeling particularly social and distanced themselves from us the minute we approached them with love, or in Eider's case, with a stick!
Once on top, we sat on rocks and enjoyed the beautifully breathtaking views. We could have sat there for hours, gazing at the mountains of Escazu, taking in the city of Santa Ana in the distance, and talking about life. We decided to descend though, so we could walk to the local store before the rain arrived punctually at 3pm.

GUAVA TREES AND MOUNTAIN TOPS
It was nice to have company on my first walk to the local grocery store. I have committed to doing that strenuous walk everyday and am happy to report that I haven't skipped a day yet!

The walk to the store was a pleasant 35 minutes or so and included making a pit stop at a Guava tree for some fresh fruit snacks! The walk back, well, that's another story. As I've mentioned before, my apartment is perched high on a mountain top. This feature provides beautiful views, but what's not so beautiful is the walk up. The hill is the steepest hill you can imagine and the sun was shining hard by the time we made our way back. I trailed behind and lost my breath so many times, I'm not sure I'll ever fully find it again!  Alas, the sense of accomplishment in reaching the top was indescribable and after having been here for 9 days, it still hasn't gotten any easier, but I will keep on trekking!
