OUR FIRST HIKE
Once we got settled in, Caro and I set about the challenging task of going for a hike in the surrounding area. Just imagine uphill and downhill were the only directions - not 5 feet of flat land to speak of!! It was worth it though, to enjoy the local sites: beautiful mountain views, cows hanging out, and a colony of ants that seemed to be carrying leaves 10 times their size!

We also walked the 30 minutes to the local grocery store in the town of Piedades. The hike back continued to be strenuous and I thought I was going to die by the time we made it safely back to my apartment! As a reward, we were greeted by Mackie, my neighbor's dog. She is great company, though she is a little shy at first. She comes to visit every day and recently, she came in and lay at my feet while I caught up on some writing!
