The Birth of the Semi-Backpacker

After so many months of planning, dreaming, talking and googling, my trip is finally here! I'd like to say that this Bronx-born city girl that's never been camping is doing a 360 and packing a tent and sleeping bag in her backpack; HOWEVER, I am realistic and comfortable in the fact that change can be gradual and that I am in no way ready for that level of tree huggin' lovin' yet!

Instead, I am proclaiming myself a semi-backpacker. For instance, I do have a backpack that I'm bringing with me, HOWEVER, it has nice, comfortable wheels and I also have an additional piece of carry on luggage. I swear, I tried to swing it with just the backpack, but as soon as I stuffed my hiking boots and weather-proof gear, there was barely space left for any other roughing it-type essentials (such as my curling iron and dancing shoes!)

As part of my semi-backpacking mantra, I will not be pitching a tent, tying my own knots, or making fire out of bobby pins and fig leaves, but I will be stretching my dollars by staying at low-cost hostels and traveling to my destinations via buses and ferries.

My plane leaves in less than 5 hours and arrives at my first destination after 2 international layovers and 16 short hours. I am excited to get started on my journey and look forward to staying in touch (as often as I can get to an internet-cafe!)

I will document my trip with extensive picture taking and sassy commentary, so check back often to see what I am up to. My next update, will come to you live in a few days, as I begin my journey to the end of the world!

I don't even know you anymore! The girl that has never been fishin in her entire life is now travelling rainforests (albeit with a curling iron...). So jealous as I continue to make edits to the MG workbook...
TIP: you can make a new Jane outfit with bobby pins and fig leaves but probably not a fire.
Tell Tarzan I said hi:)

All the places I've dreamed of being, okay, except for the tent thing!! I'll live vicariously (I don't even know how to spell that word...I guess that's why I don't use it)through you....Happy Times and Grand Adventures! ---Rebecca
