On may 26th, 2008, just two days after I walked across the stage at University of Redlands' Greek Theater, I left the states for a four month trip to Munich, Germany. This is not the first time that I have left the country for four months. Two years ago this fall, I studied for a semester in Salzburg, Austria. As it turns out, Salzburg is only a two hour train ride from Munich, so I will be visiting as often as possible to my home away from home. When I'm not taking day trips to Salzburg, I will spend most of my days coaching three different age groups under the team name: the Haar Disciples. I will help coach an under 15 team, the women's second team, and I will play on and coach the women's first team. When there is no softball, I'll be exploring all that Munich has to offer. Now let me start telling you about my trip... day one.
After a very tough goodbye and a long flight, I arrived in Munich at about 5:30pm. I was greeted by my head coach, Ingo...
the other American on the team, Melissa...
and Caren, our c/ss.
About a half hour later, I was on the softball field. If you know me, you'll also know that nothing can stand in the way of me and softball. At least almost nothing. Apparently sleep and water depravation are very bad for athletes. After practice, the team was probably thinking they had wasted money by bringing me over here. I did not do well. Luckily, it was only the first of two practices of the week.
So, tired and now very sweaty, I got back into Caren's car and headed to my apartment. I was a little bit unsure of how the apartment was going to turn out. I kept hearing giggles and comments like "yeah it's REALLY small." I didn't really see how it could be too small for one person, but I was nervous anyway. As my luck would have it however, it is perfect. Yes, it is tiny. But it's cozy, has everything I need, and it is in a GREAT location. Here's what it looks like...

That last picture is where I have to keep my computer if I want to get internet. It's actually very nice to look out the window... even when it's raining!
Very soon after I got into my apartment, I fell asleep. Thus was the end of my first day in Munich! Next: My first week.

Welcome to Munich Mel's....I love the apartment, I think it is perfect for you. I especially love the fact that it is furnished with three beer mugs on the top of the cabinet----perfect. Be good, will talk soon.
