29th September (Day 8)

So we decided that we would take another ride to the Mont - well why not we're here aren't we!  Well actually Nick went for a run early in the morning to the Mont around the outside then up and around the battlements (madness!!!!) and he found some new places to visit that we had missed in the dark!  So after a couple of hours of discovery time we got on our bikes and rode the 3km to the Mont.  The buses full of tourists had parked up and the carpark was very full.  There were a few school trips aswell, quite a difference from the night before.  What was very nice was that the French airforce decided to honour our trip with a display of parachuting and aircraft manoevours.  3 aircrafts dropped about 40 parachutists over a target placed in a field just to the side of the carpark.  It was a spectatular sight, one lot ended up in the wrong field but the majority of them were not far off target.  The aircraft, once loads dumped, then did a little display of wing tipping, banking and then flying almost vertically upwards, very topgun - we could almost hear their commanding officer shouting 'son, your ego's writing cheques your body can't cash!' but hey if you can't show off when you're a pilot and he did have a hugh audience but of course it was just for us!!

We locked the bikes up - no complaints this morning from the young ones and headed off to the 'secret chapel' Nick had found in an area 'where there will be no tourist', as it's secret! So we rounded the corner to be met by a secondary school trip sitting on the 'secret passage' eating their pack lunches and a load of 'aged' people looking at the 'secret chapel'! But at
least we got to walk over quicksand and dangerous rocks to get to these secret places!!!!!!! We could have walked around the otherway but that would have been too easy and really not as much fun!

We did make it to the chapel and it was very qwerky and we braved the French teenagers and walked up the passage to enter Mont St Michel from the rear - oh eh!  We had a good walk around the battlements with the boys hiding in the recesses and jumping out on anyone who walked by, I think they were expecting Nick and I but we kept holding back just for entertainment value!! We eventually did let the boys scare us and stop the poor Japanese jumping out of their skins. (he he he)  Nick spent 2 euros on a kit kat, yes just one! That was it for his expenditure in Mont St Michel so with a belly full of chocolate (not) we headed back to Dixie to get packed up and on the road again.

We had decided to head to Pleneuf Val Andre a little port town on the coast just above St Brieuc.  We arrived about 4pm and got set up (we're getting quite quick at it now!).  After a quick siesta (still cant sleep!) I had promised to cook toad in the hole (Alex had decided he needed something English!) And Anna - Delia would be proud!!!!  So we had Toad in the Hole, mash and 3 veg, very typically English.

That evening we went for a walk around the harbour, we decided it was very much like Abersoch, very holiday town feel but with a few nice shops and resturants.

When we got back the boys played battleships and Nick and I plotted some aires and vineyards on the map that might be worth staying at.  It just makes it alot easier in the morning when decided where we are heading to know immediately where the stopping points are rather than looking at the map, then one book, then another book, back to the map and then checking the books again - or maybe thats just me!!!
