Sayonara Japan, Bonjour Montreal
Trip Start Nov 03, 2008
19Trip End Nov 16, 2008
Woke up early and repacked my entire bag before grabbing breakfast and setting out for the airport. Narita is well outside of Tokyo, and since my railpass was expired, I took the slower train to save some money. It took about 90 minutes to get to the airport, which wasn't too bad, and I checked in and had one last sushi lunch before departure.
I left Tokyo at 2:30pm, spent over 11 hours in the air, and landed in Detroit at 12pm... on the same day. That's right, I landed two hours before I departed, regaining the day I lost on the way there. You know, if I had to pick one day of my life to get a do-over for, I wouldn't pick a day spent flying in a cramped economy-class airplane seat surrounded by screaming babies. There have been some really great days in my life, and to paraphrase Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, why can't I have one of those days over?
At any rate, the flights were mostly uneventful, and I'm now back home and completely jetlagged. Added frustration when I got home to discover my car wouldn't start, because *someone* well-intentioned who shall remain nameless left the lights on. Argh. But I eventually made it back home, unpacked as much as I could, and now I've been up for over 26 hours and I'm about to collapse. I'll probably be awake at 4am, but it's all good.
Up next: Japan in review.
