Home sweet home

Home at last, and it is indeed sweet. I've only made it 99% home, technically. I'm in Dollard, crashing at my folks' for the night while I use their amenities including the washer/dryer. So I haven't made it to my own place yet and I won't get to sleep in my own bed until tomorrow. But I've been fed Mom's cooking, I'm no longer living out of a backpack, and I've had great reunions with Elie and Iris, so far. More to follow in the next few days, as I look forward to seeing all of you.
It's true what they say, it's great to travel but also great to come home. Having met people living anywhere and everywhere on this trip, I'd have to add that it's good having a home to come to. Home, after all, isn't just four walls and a place to store stuff; it's a real state of mind. After the fun but largely fleeting encounters with fellow travellers on the road, there's nothing quite like coming to a place where everyone knows you and missed you and is glad you're back.
Was this trip a life-altering experience? Was it just a trip around the world to see a lot of cool stuff? It's really too soon to process, but I suspect it was a little of both. I saw and did and experienced so much, and met so many interesting people and visited so many fascinating places, but when it comes down to it, it was, after all, just a trip, and I'm still me (just with enough photos and stories to annoy everyone with for the next few centuries, at least). I'm not sure that it's fair to try and attach a profound meaning to something that simply was what it was. I will honestly say that I had a great time and I don't regret a second of it.
With the time difference, it feels like five in the morning, so I'm heading off to sleep. In the coming days I'll probably tweak this journal a bit, but for the most part, that's all, folks. I hope you've enjoyed accompanying me virtually on this journey as much as I've enjoyed having you with me.
