It was absolutely insane!!

Monday morning after a major holiday weekend, Cambodians were returning to the city after a long weekend off to their villages. It was Ancestor's Day when they went to the temples to pray to the dead.

I took a bus going out from Phnom Penh. There were so much traffic coming in it was a nightmare. People were riding on top of packed vans. Motorbikes were pulling carts with up to a dozen passengers.

Traffic was the worst at the ferry crossing. There was a queue of over a kilometer. Cars, buses, motorbikes were waiting. Vendors came to sell food and drinks. Traffic from the opposite side swelled into this side making it impossible to get through. The military had to come out to help.

Every ferry was packed with vehicles and passangers, it was way overloaded. I was afraid it may capsize and had to get out of the bus while I was on the ferry.

We made it...only to ride into Saigon crawling traffic. Roads were like rivers flowing with helmets. There were motorbikes, motorbikes and more motorbikes..everyone honking constantly if not continuously..as if they were in an emergency of national proportion..they really need to just calm down..

Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City, but it will always be Saigon to me.
