Like most tourists who went to Krabi Province, I did not stay in Krabi town. I took a ferry from there to Phiphi Islands, with my car parked at the secured parking at the pier.

There were 4 scheduled ferry services to and from Phiphi per day, by two companies, each offered two trips. You can buy open return ticket at a discount. But be careful: it's only good at the company where u bought it. Check your schedule.

The ferry took me to Ton Sai pier on Phiphi Don, the larger of the two Islands. The other one is Phiphi Lay Island. Ton Sai is the only beach town on Phiphi Don. It's very small, more like a village. Everything is within walking distance. There are no motorized transportation on the island. No cars, no motorbikes. Pack light or hire someone with a pushcart to take ur luggage.

There are hotels and guesthouses for every budget. Most of them are simple guesthouses aimed at active tourists who just need a bed and not much else. Luxurious accommodations by the water probably have their own boats to pick u up at the pier.

I went on a half-day snorkeling trip. The 9.30am to 1.30pm trip covered the same places as the full day trip and cost just a little less. I was able to see just as much but avoided the hot afternoon sun.

Because of the close proximity, the trip was able to make numerous stops, including at Maya Beach on Phiphi Lay Island, made famous by the movie The Beach. Yeah, this is the beach.

There were shark sighting and cliff jumping trips for the adventurous. Ur-uh..not for me.

I went trekking up the mountain too late in the afternoon. I walked until it was too dark and had to turn around without reaching the View Point where I could have a bird's eye view of the beach town. May be next time..

After dark, the beaches on Phiphi Don Island turned into party streets. Bars and restaurants with colorful neon signs and fire shows on the beach. The loud music, the drinking and dancing went on until wee morning hours.
