On our last night in Japan we decided to spend the night in a love hotel.  These basically are rooms you can rent buy the hour/4-6 hours or all night.  The reason they are so big in Japan is that people generally live at home until they get married and even then still might live at home for sometime before they get a place of their own.  This means if they want to get 'giggy with it' they need some room.
The hotels range from your cheap and  tacky room to full suites.  They also have the bizzare theme rooms. Some examples are dungeons or hospital delivery rooms (aye actual stirrups). We settled for a Bali Island style.  Which was basically a suite sunken bath and kareoke. With a massive bed, another settee bed thing and a matress next to the bath.  A few plasma screens as well.
On entering the building you choose the room from a selection on the wall.  Then pay for it with a card Giant Pussy and me!!!

.  There is generally no human interaction as its all automated.  The lift then drops you off at the right floor and lights (think airplane aisle lights) guide you to your room.
Once inside you can't leave.  But there is a vending machine.  In the maching you can get allsorts. (Not Basset)  Vibrators galore, edible undies, handcuffs.  And my personal favourite pot noodles just incase you get hungry  : ).  Ohh aye they also had nuts.
If in Japan for one night don't bother with a hotel.  Give these a shot.  Definitely something you need to do once in your life : )
Now its off to Sunny Oz for a bit of R'n'R and Chirstmas down under.
Safe travels
