OK - so I have never done a "zip line" before and I had a major misconception about what it is really like.  Originally I thought it would be a relaxing trip through the tops of the trees where you pull yourself hand-over-hand and check out the views.

Boy was I wrong!  I'm not sure if this one is typical or not, we flew at obnoxious speeds through the trees with a zeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound.

After being strapped into a harness, climbing up to a treehouse-like platform, and snapped onto a steel cable, the platform guide instructed me to sit down, cross my legs, and pull down on the cable with the leather pad on my right hand to slow down.

"OK - go!" he said.  And I slid along the first cable to the second platform with a wizzing sound.

For safty, there is a pad on the receiving tree as well as an emergency break that is supposed to prevent me from actually hitting the tree, or thats what they told me.

There where six stations between 50 and 250 yards apart.  The first zip line was the shortest and wasn't very steep - it was basically a training run.  The second, third, and fourth get progressively faster and longer - and the last two were the real fun.

I absolutely flew through the tree tops, about 80 feet off the ground.  It was so much fun, we turned around and did it again!

"OK - this is the third station - you have to break yourself this time."  The platform attendant told me.

"What you mean by 'break myself'? - that could have a couple meanings"

There was a huge group of high school kids from Buenos Aires doing the trip that day as well, and my friend (who is also an American named Sean) and I were a hit with the Argentinian kids - they all wanted their pictures taken with the blond guys from Hollywood.

You have to check out the three videos below to get an idea of how fast we went!
