Where I stayed

Having to cut our stay in Slovenia short we packed up our gear / bungled it in the car as it was hosing down and hit the road for Italia! The sweet Slovenian highways turned into countryside roads after crossing the boarder as the ridiculous tolls forced us to use them.

We cruised into Venice early in the afternoon and pretty much headed straight over to check out the city / island!

Venice is pretty bloody choice! The buildings seem to rise out of the water and the canals they form are bustling with boats, water taxis and gondolas! We instantly lost ourselves winding our way through the maze of small alleyways, canals and! The town isn't the flashiest as it gets hammered by the elements (flooding and tourists) but that's part of the setting I guess! After the jaunt we kicked back at a canal side restaurant for, pasta and vino russo of course!!

The next day we again headed over to the city. Again instantly losing ourselves (not so fun we would find out later on after walking for hours trying to find your way home!). On our way around though we did knock off some of the sights. The Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge, Piazza San's daily flooding, tower and Basilica, the views of the Venetian islands from the waterside...all pretty minta. The fabled Gondola ride was thrown about but in the end forking out a wedge load of coin on a boat ride dodging water taxis and turning up in the photo albums of 20,000 tourists probably didn't do it for us. Heading back to camp we caught up with some fellow Aussie travellers and hooked into the red (and a few rogue shots from the friendly campsite owner!!).
