We awoke early and headed into the Fussen town centre which was pretty choice. After a quick coffee we headed up to Neuschwanstein and Hohenscmhwangau castles. "the fairytale castles". Neuschwanstein being the one Disnez apparently based their logo upon and of course in realitz it was the refuge of the reclusive King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Its obvious why they call it the fairytale castle as the setting is magical...on an outcrop up in the hills surrounded by the misty mountain tops. We ditched the absolute hoards queuing to go inside we just headed up the mountian for a look catching a bus to save ourselves the 45min uphill hike. At the top we ventured to an outlook from a wooden bridge across a gorge looking down on the castle. Heading up we were suspicous of the facade and true to form there was scaffolding surrounding the backend of the castle...typical of the tirp so far! The front end was still looking good though and we headed into the courtyard.

After making our way back down the hill....locking in a tankard from the souvenir shop en route we headed south into Austria. In Salzburg we locked in a campsite....the neighbours slowly turning from Germans and Dutch to Italian.

After spending the day settling in and loading up on supplies, we headed into the city the following day. Kirsty in charge of the map it wasnt too long before we were onto the first of the Sound of Music sights! I couldnt tell you what location but it had fountain and gardens there were a few enthusiasts whistling 'Do Ra Me' so maybe it was that scene....anyhow the gardens were immaculate. The afternoon was spent wandering the old town...taking in the stunning archetecture and buldings. Being Mozarts hometown we stumbled across his birthplace and home.....spent a quality 15mins plazing with those music box things playing his tunes....simple things! We wandered up to the hilltop fort...and the convent in the Sound of Music for views over the city before heading back to camp.
