Gili Islands

Couldnt get to sleep as didnt get up till late afternoon before and had to catch bus from g.h at 6am and so didnt bother going to sleep.Bus took an hour to get to Padangbai where we waited for the ferry to Lombok.Met Liza from Australia and Seb from Holland on bus and had breakfast while waiting for the ferry.
Had booked a ticket to Mataram in Lombok,the main place to start hikes to Mount Rinjani but after talking and getting on with them decided to carry on and get to the Gili Islands.Loads of hasslers on the ferry while waiting to leave,one gang of lads threatening a tourist cos they had carried his bags 100yards and were demaning 10,000 rupiah and he only wanted to pay a thousand!They got off angry telling him never to come back to the place or else!
Spent 4hours on the slowest,most uncomfy ferry with hard wooden benches not good after not getting any sleep last night!Off the ferry and again attacked by loads of hasslers pushing everything from water to fags,then in another bus for 30minutes.Had to stop at ATM as the islands have no bank,cars,roads or Police!After waiting another 2hours and even more stops-one of them to get a horse and cart down to the last boat yard we finally got onto a longtail boat to hop over to Gili after 13hours of travelling and trudged around the sea front eventually getting 2rooms for thousand a night each.
Went out straight away as all needed a beer!
the island was perfect,no cars untouched by most things just sea front with white sand and bars and restaurants with chairs on the sand or wooden little huts where you could sit or lie inside on the beach having a beer!Ended up getting totally wasted with Liza
until late as Seb was diving early next morning and so had an early night.
Hung over next day and so just had easy walk around island and went out for some scran with Liza in night,best idea ever one place had 10little wooden sheds where you had a dvd and tv inside and you can hire them on the beach,
pick a film or play xbox and just chill watching it so we hired one and watched Syriana-which was a bit crap though!
Hired couple of mountain bikes and snorkels next day to go round island and just stopped now and then to dive in and snorkel off the reefs around the shore,saw a couple of reef sharks and followed a few turtles some of the best snorkelling ive done with the amount of different fish around
Said goodbye to Liza said shed get me work as a lifeguard or something as she runs sports centre in Perth if I headed that way,
and caught the 1hour boat crossing back to the Bangsul mafia awaiting on the shore to hassle me into buying everything I didnt want and managed to escape onto bus back up the winding journey back to Mataram.Got talking to Sarah from England on bus back to Mataram who'd lost her cards and money and agreed to share a room with her in Shanta Puri hotel for 40,000 between us
Not a lot to see in Mataram,one major shopping mall where I went and bought some jelly sweets(wahey!)Looked into the Mount Rinjani hill climb but would have cost 900,000 and takes 3nights to get to the summit and after deciding wouldnt have time booked a bus journey/ferry for next day at 3pm to Labuanbajo thats gonna take 27hours!Got head down early not looking forward to the next journey!
