Up late with hangovers, surprise, and hurriedly packed away the tent. We embarked on our last drive on the truck to the border and said our fond farewells to Pete and Twiga, quite emotional....what was not so emotional was the comedy 'Speedy Gonzales' stage dive off Twiga by said annoyed Canadian from previous evening with the sole intention of having the best three seats on our coach heading south. Something about Karma, she ended up having to share one of her hallowed seats with a small Welshman.

We boarded the coach bound for Cape Town with Vikki feeling like death and arrived in Springbok requiring stodge. Wimpy for breakfast anyone? Had a burger meal each with a bottomless cup of fluorescent Fanta orange, which we drank and refilled so many times that the waitress looked stunned...the resulting sugar rush got us back to the coach a little high.

As usual, our arranged transfer was somewhat deficient - this time in the SOARING heat our coaches aircon had broken down. It felt like travelling ten hours in a mobile sauna - TIA.

We bought ice at the next roadside stop, which turned out to be a real life saver, not only for keeping our drinks cold but we used the icy melted water to dip our face towel into and cold body-washed ourselves for the next few hours, heaven, heaven, heaven!

As we approached Cape Town, passing the wine region of Stellenbosch, we could see Table Mountain in the distance shrouded with cloud that looked like dry ice spilling over the summit...Amazing, such an imposing feature.

The wind picked up and was swirling violently by the time we arrived at Ashanti Lodge - the thought of abseiling down the side (weather permitting!) seemed a scary prospect. At the lodge we upgraded to an ensuite so that we could prepare calmly for our South East Asia leg and have a nice base from which to explore Cape Town. We dropped our gear at the guesthouse, chilled out for a bit and then went to Asoka restaurant for seared yellowfin tuna and to switch us on to Asian cuisine - delicious. Vikki had a starter of seared Norwegian salmon on individual wanky spoons....Yum.

Back at the room we set a plan for exploring Cape Town, and savoured the comfort of our snuggly beds.
